Diploma in English Law and Legal Skills

The 1-year Diploma in English Law and Legal Skills provides participants a wide range of English substantive law and core practical legal skills. The substantive law elements of the course include:

  • English legal system
  • Contract law
  • Tort law
  • Equity and the law of trusts

The core practical legal skills taught on the course include:

  • Interviewing and advising clients
  • Case analysis and trial strategies
  • Oral and written advocacy
  • Negotiation and contract drafting
  • Preparing CVs and interview skills

Whatever stage of your career you are at, and whatever career plans you have, the Diploma in English Law and Legal Skills will help to make those plans a reality

The timetable is available on Google Calendar here, which you can then add to your personal calendar if you wish. The calendar only shows the dates for the 8x4hr small-group classes (32 hours in total), which start in Oct/Nov. The options for attending additional legal skills workshops will be sent to registered students in October.

Fees:

Student/Non-student Early-Bird fee (applies if First Payment of € is paid by 30 June) Standard fee (applies if fees paid after 30 June)
Full-time student* €625 €725
Non-student €850 €950

 *Anyone registered as a full-time student at any Higher Education institution within the EU (inc. Ph.D students  or anyone officially registered on an OIRP/ORA aplikacja course)

It is possible to split fee payments into two equal instalments:

    • First Payment of  – payable within 14 days of being accepted onto the Diploma Course
    • Second Payment – payable by 31 October
    • Third Payment – payable by 28 February

    NB. Anyone wishing to benefit from the reduced “early-bird fee” must pay €200 by 30 June.

    UWr WPAiE Local University Fees:

    A local fee (750 PLN for students of UWr WPAiE or 1000 PLN for everyone else) is charged by the host University.

    Course Overview

    • Core English law taught by UK legal practitioners and academics

    • Over 100 hours of pre-recorded lectures to watch (self-study)

    • 4-hour (small-group) monthly classes for 8 months (32 hours in total)

    • Additional legal skills training (minimum 10 hours in total)

    • Specially-prepared written materials and legal skills exercises

    • Optional voluntary activities (e.g. simulated trials, moots etc.)

    Substantive Law

    Study the most important areas of English law, with particular focus on commercially relevant issues. Familiarise yourself with the most common choice of governing law in international contracts.
